You can carry your roots with you, and decide where they grow.” — Henning Mankell Grain ProElite line feed programs customized to your horse's individual needs. Owner's may also provide their own grain and it will be fed as instructed by owner. Hay Up to 8 flakes of high quality grass hay per horse is given. Hay is available at all times in the run-in sheds and stalls. Hay is fed through owner-provided hay nets. Additional hay needs may be available at cost to the owner and at the discretion of the barn manager. Turnout All horses (pasture board or barn board) are turned out in lush, green pastures. Pastures are checked and cleaned daily. Large run-in sheds are provided in each pasture. In pasture board fields, there are tack rooms in the run-in sheds. Stalls Stall boarders have the option between our two barns. The lower pole-style barn houses roomy stalls, hot/cold water wash stall, tack room, and restroom. Horses have the option of stalls with a 'window' front or the standard stall with no opening into the barn aisle. The 'upper' stone barn has fewer but larger stalls. The stone barn sports a wooden floor, hot/cold water wash stall, and tack room. Both barns are expertly cleaned once a day while the horses are turned out. Fly Gear Owner-provided fly gear as well as fly spray can be applied by barn staff at no additional cost to owner. Owner-provided grazing muzzles and cribbing collars can be applied as needed. Blanketing Owner-provided blankets are applied by barn staff at no additional cost. Blankets are tagged with a color-code system that is reflected by temperature increments in the same color. Blankets are applied beginning in November of each year. Medications and Supplements Owner-provided medications and supplements can be given as directed by barn staff at no additional cost Farrier Farrier Matt Shock is regularly scheduled at Nookside. • About Us | Nookside Stables

A Little Bit About Our History Nookside Stables has a history that can be traced all the way back to 1650. Indian tribes including the Susquehannocks, Piquaws, Shawnese, and Ganawese are traced back to this are. It is said that the Ganawese originated in this exact area. On October 16, 1727 the farm was purchased by Jacob Heistand from the Penn Family Properties. The farm was kept in the Heistand family, ultimately being run by Jacob's grandson, John. The family owned the farm until 1899. Harry Landis Mumma purchased the farm in the early 1900's and utilized it as a Guernsey cow dairy farm. Construction of route 283 began during this time. In 2003, Greg and Karoline Gehman purchased the property and hosted a horse boarding facility called Knights Landing. In 2014, Don and Kathy Hess purchased the farm and hosted a trail riding adventure program. The Hess's have been maintaining the property and overseeing the horse boarding program since. Nookside looks a bit different now, new ownership, management, and staff have lead to the creation of a beautiful family.
